러쉬크로우의 팝송 번역/해석

2003년에 개봉한 '영화 8 마일' 주제곡이다. 에미넴의 자전적인 내용이라 당시에 큰 조명을 받았다. 빈민가 컨테이너에서 어렵게 살고 있는 백인 청년의 좌절과 힙합에 대한 열정에 대한 내용이다. 영화는 그다지 재미는 없었다.

영화가 끝나고 크래딧이 올라갈 때 이 음악이 나왔는데 보통 다른 영화들은 엔딩 곡을 번역하지 않지만 이 영화는 자막이 나왔다. 극장에 조명이 들어와서 많은 사람들이 일어나 나가려다 멈춰서 스크린의 자막을 봤다. 나 역시 그랬다. 그러다 재미없던 영화가 갑자기 감동으로 다가왔다. 훗날 아카데미 주제가상을 받았다는 소식을 들었을 때 그럴만하다고 생각했다. 한국어 번역은 Double K가 했다고  한다. 

"사는 것이 아무리 희망없는 시궁창이라도 인생을 걸 수 있는 것에 '자신을 잃을 만큼 (Lose yourself)' 매달려라. 어차피 인생은 한방이니까" 라는 내용이다. 

유튜브에서 노래를 검색하면 보통 욕이 나오는 부분을 묵음 처리한 것들이 상위에 나온다. 그래서 원곡으로 링크를 걸었다.

That's what I've been told: tell의 과거형 told는 말했다 뿐 아니라 '들었다'의 뜻도 있다. (나도 이번에 알았다.) 내가 말해왔던 것이라는 뜻 같지만 그렇게 들으며 살았다는 뜻이다. 그렇다고 '그렇게 들었어'라고 하면 '들다'와 헷깔릴 듯 하여 '그렇게 알고 살았다'로 번역했다.
